[ Usually, he would laugh it off as a joke it is supposed to be- but with how serious she suddenly become apparently it is not. ]
Huh.
[ So eloquent. He's used to being complimented and praised for various aspects, his proficiency with spear, his bravado, and fearlessness. That's where you answer with a similar boast, and share the glory. Or just laugh, laugh loud and free.
But being called "wise" was not one of those things. It takes him few more seconds to recover from the surprise and answer with a more confident reply ]
It honors me greatly that you think so.
[ It really does. But it's the second part of her words that gets to him the most, much more than the compliment. ]
But what makes me truly happy, is that my words are of use to someone like you.
They're not words 'someone like me' is used to hearing.
[ She tried to say it as light heartedly as she could. And she did mean it that way. It was a good thing, really, to hear such words. Words that were meant to make her feel better or be used to better herself rather than berate her or put her down. ]
Though I worry it might be wasted. I'm not very good at talking or thinking about such deep things.
[ Alex didn't pull away, but there was a second of tension when his hand reached out to her. But it was Caster, so it was okay. ]
I think I've been doing that for too long already.
[ Having been on autopilot for so long, trying to be more introspective was exhausting. She could see the appeal in not doing it all the time. She wondered what his reason was. ]
Hmm, I'd go with a gut feeling and say- right now is a good moment to do it.
[ Since the topic was brought up and pertains. He's not a fan of being introspective, yet, that's all he does when he sits with a fishing pole for hours. But it's also very easy to just let the thoughts flew by. ]
Maybe you should pick up gardening or fishing? [ That was random ] It's not a topic-change, it's one of the things I do when I has to think.
As for gardening- Just one of the things I picked up from my grandfather. He was a real big name druid around, everybody shat their pants if he gave them a stare.
[ Right, that's a good way to describe him. Perfect. For an ancient guy, Caster sure picks up modern lingo quickly. But it's useful in blending with the crowd. Or just making new friends. ]
There's a small garden in the back of my temple, actually.
He sounds...intense. [ But if that was who Caster had learned gardening from, surely he wasn't too bad. ]
There are a lot of plants back at the temple. I try to water them when I can, but I'm wondering if maybe they'd do better if I left them alone. There is a harder on the roof though. What..kind of things do you grow in yours?
They seem to be doing fine of their own, but if you ever need a helping hand in the garden...
[ More opportunities to hang around temple Oshun, oh hi. As for his own gardens. ]
I got here in the late August, so I didn't expect to get much of results. Mostly herbs, some flowers, a radish or spinach here and there. [ He sighs ] If I knew the warm weather holds for so long here I would do a better job.
I'd like that. It seems like a waste to just leave the roof as is. I've never tried growing something myself.
[ Gardening sounded peaceful, and a pleasant way to keep busy. ]
Did you have a garden like this back where you're from? Or did you have a farm?
[ Not that he had mentioned anything about a farm. With his staff though she could kind of imagine him amongst a flock of sheep... Alex isn't sure how she feels about the image. ]
Farm? Hmm.. not in today's sense, no. But we had land and livestock if that's what you ask.
[ And yes, sheep ]
And like every land it had to be tended to. I preferred hunting as a way to contribute, but in the end, it was wherever the hands were needed the most.
[ For all the talk about kings and kingdoms, their medieval counterparts would consider the Emain Macha - the capital of Ulster - merely a big village. ]
Back then, being a knight wasn't just sitting in shiny armor and clinking with every move. If war happened it was everybody's business. If there was peace, it was everybody's business too.
Oh, people butted heads all the time, about stupidest things. Just like now. But it was a little easier I think. I could get my nose broken and still be friends by the next night.
[ He laughs as if he just made a great joke. It's not like his times were without grudges, quite on the opposite of it. People seethed and hated as now. Honor and promises meant tad more, and it did keep the populace in a different place. ]
At the end of the day, we could trust each other. And trust each will follow their beliefs.
[ Which didn't always end well and that's another can of worms ]

[ He moves closer to whisper into her ear the secret that probably everyone knows ]
Neither am I.
[ He might be an "intellectual" occasionally, but he's pretty simple guy at his core ]

We probably should do something about that, huh?

[ His hand brushes her hair, idly ]
But it's okay to not be doing it all the time.
[ "Don't overthink" is a kind of advice he would do. Probably not best advice ever. ]

How do you know when it's necessary to do it?

Fishing sounds...awfully boring. No offense. I didn't know you did gardening though.

It sounds like you all got along so well. Did no one fight with each other?
[ Territory was everything, and sharing was not something many did well in Ergastulum. ]
